Park & Quilt

We met Jake and Kyle at the part his morning. It’s nice to get out of the house, but it’s been really too hot to stay at the park very long. I can’t wait for it to feel more fall-ish again. It was like 88 degrees there today between 10 and 11. Sheesh! The boys had fun, though Flynn kept getting in trouble because he’d run away and the other two boys would follow. Not fun for the 5-mo-pregnant mother who had to chase after him.

Afterward, since it was so hot out, we had the boys and moms come back to the house for smoothies. I’m glad we have frozen fruit on hand for just such spontaneous occasions. We got a bunch for when Clint’s buddies were here, but didn’t use any. Lucky us!

A wonderful surprise arrived in the mail today. This is the quilt that Clint’s mom made for us for our wedding. It’s all hand-pieced and hand quilted, and so beautiful. She’s spent so much time and so many years on it and we’re very excited it have it on our bed. In fact, she told me it was on the 10-year plan, so we actually got it 1.5 years early! I had to run to the bedroom yesterday afternoon and change the bedding so it would all be nice for the new quilt. Thank you so much, Fonnell. We will cherish it.

My Hero

My sister Inge is my hero. She just had a baby in August and she sent me her maternity clothes since I don’t have any… well, I have 2 shirts and a pair of shorts, but that’s not much. Pretty awesome of her, huh? So now I can actually be dressed comfortably every day. Thanks Inge!

In other news, Clint has started back up on a movie through his company. The planetarium project has slowed down for the next several months, so he’ll be down at Fox Studios until that picks back up again. We’re all sad that he won’t be working from home for a while. We miss him already. But, we’re glad to have a steady paycheck while the economy is down at the moment.

Crazy

Just when we’d considered recuperating from a long weekend of playing with Clint’s buddies from HS we decided to have the Home-Teaching families over for lunch. Mostly it was because we had bunches of food left from our visitors, but it’s also partly because we’re crazy. So, we had everyone over right after church, had a lesson, cooked up some burgers and ate up the good stuff … instead of napping. It actually probably worked out in our favor because Flynn got a good 12 hours of sleep last night (compared to our 6 hours) and a nap would’ve made him less likely to go to bed early again tonight.

What made us stay up so late last night? Shadows Over Camelot. We were introduced to this game over Christmas at my parent’s house, and it was even better playing it this time around. Anyone interestd in a serious struggle against the forces of evil, give us a call… but make sure the kids are in bed before playing it. You won’t want to be interrupted.

Doing

What have you been doing, Eden?
Did you just say “doing”? (pronounce it like “boing”)
No, I said “do-ing.”
Oh, well, it’s spelled the same. (see homestarrunner.com if you don’t get the reference.)

Clint got an email from Shutterfly for a free 20 page 8×8 photo book, and after waiting too long to decide to do something about it I’ve been devoting too much time to making the pages. And now, for all of your viewing pleasure….

Now, with Clint’s buddies in town I can actually focus on having fun playing with them.

Souplantation

When  you’ve got a “buy one, get one free” coupon, you’ve gotta use it! And it doesn’t hurt if it’s at one of your favorite places to eat!

I got an emailed coupon last week, so we planned an FHE outing to Souplantation with Kelsi, John, Jake and Georgia. They’re doing a tour of Asia this month, so we went for some yummy food. Luckily for John and Clint they had apple cobbler for dessert (don’t know how that’s asian, but… we’ll take it) instead of my favorite Chocolate Lava Cake. It’s always fun to see the two boys being goofy together. Jake even remembered to catch some “buggies” while we were there.

Other than that outing, we tried to spend the day getting the house ready for our visitors. Clint’s HS buddies are coming in town tomorrow night for some vacationing. We’re going to be playing hard, so we’ve got to get everything ready. Too bad I was exhausted and needed a nap today. I could’ve gotten so much done. I guess that means I save my whole list for tomorrow. Well, I did get the cars vacuumed out and washed. That’s one thing.

Swimming

It looks like the swimming lessons Flynn took this summer actually have payed off. He likes to swim with Elmo. He dons his goggles, lays Elmo on the kitchen floor, and propels himself across the floor. Sometimes he’ll even swim backwards.

Lately, he’s been swimming without Elmo. He just lays down on the floor and does the “backstroke.” He invariably ends up under the dining table. I’m having to keep the floors well swept so he doesn’t track crumbs all over the house. Unfortunately, he’s discovered there are a few restaurants we’ve been to with floors that are ideal for “swimming,” which really grosses me out, but he doesn’t seem to understand my disgust.

We went to In-N-Out last week and the guy taking our order gave Flynn a hat. He was too nervous to wear it at the restaurant.  In an effort to get the dining table cleaned off for Sunday tomorrow I found the hat. He was excited to wear the hat today!

Spider Movie

When we were at my parents’ house earlier this month we found a huge spider in the kitchen. (Guess that’s what happens when you clean the house!) I made Clint get it and he decided Flynn would like seeing it. Here’s Flynn’s reaction.

Woot!

I was standing in the garage waiting for the laundry to finish drying and staring at our shelves laden with too many boxes. A good number of them are just labeled “BOOKS.” So I pulled one out that had books from my BA and MA degrees and decided I didn’t need any of them anymore. I wrote down all the ISBNs and conditions, came in the house and signed up for an Amazon seller account and listed them for sale.

Whaddya know? 2.5 hours later one of them sold for $10. I’m so excited I want to sell ALL my books now! If you know anyone who wants to buy books on education, curriculum, and instruction (the focus of my MA), tell them there are some good ones for sale on amazon.com

Woot!

9/18/08  P.S.: I had 2 more sell this morning… and 2 more tonight. This is great!

WeBeLoS

Do you know what WEBELOS means? Well, if I didn’t before, now I do for sure. I went to an all day training through BSA today and learned a ton about scouting. In fact, I earned my first scout patch EVER! Now I just need a shirt to put it on. I’m officially a trained Scouter.

Oh, and about that last post. We had the same ultrasound technician both times. Three weeks ago she decided it was probably a boy. Last week it was probably a girl. Who knows!?! Maybe there are twins in there and they can only ever see one? We’re going to have to wait until they request another ultrasound to know for sure. In the mean time, I’m feeling good, and don’t feel ill very often anymore. Thank goodness! They want to see me every 3 weeks now to monitor for pre-eclampsia. It’s like they don’t want me to have my bed-rest.

Our friend Melanie celebrated her birthday today, so we headed over for a pot-luck salad dinner at John and Kelsi’s. I made a good Curry Chicken Pasta Salad, so I thought I’d share the recipe.

Curry Chicken Pasta Salad

1 pkg pasta (12-16 oz)

1 shredded zucchini
1 shredded yellow squash
1 shredded carrot
2 stalks celery, chopped
2 green onions, chopped
1 can chicken breast, drained and meat separated

1/2 c sour cream
1/2 c mayo/miracle whip
2 T curry powder
2 t red wine vinegar
1/2 t garlic salt
ground pepper to taste

Cook pasta according to package directions. Drain and rinse in cold water until noodles are cold. In a large bowl mix pasta, zucchini, squash, carrot, celery, green onions and chicken. Mix ramaining ingredients together in a small bowl and pour over pasta mixture. Stir to coat, cover and refrigerate until ready to eat.
